Lazio is an advanced national hub for Information and Communication Technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence, blockchain, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, thanks in part to a strong pool of general and STEM skills.

Investments

Investments in cloud, cybersecurity, AI, and big data are growing at an average annual rate of 25.6%, up to 2026. The growth rate for digital technologies and services investments in Lazio is 12 points higher than the national average.

The ICT sector represents a structurally significant part of the regional business fabric, benefiting from an innovation-driven ecosystem and positioning Lazio as the second largest tech hub in Italy, with an average annual growth rate of 6.9% (compared to 4.4% nationally). The AI market is expanding rapidly: +55% between 2022 and 2023, +34.8% in 2024, with forecasts nearing €2 billion by 2027.

Digital Agenda

The Region has adopted a Digital Agenda with highly ambitious goals to build a smart digital administration. Lazio ranks first in Italy for fixed broadband usage, first for ultra-broadband subscriptions, first for SPID (digital ID) adoption, and 19th among all European regions for the presence of ICT specialists.
