Lazio in Space

The Lazio Region and the Italian Space Agency (ASI) have signed a framework agreement to launch the new regional Aerospace and Security Industrial and Technological District. The initiative aims to strengthen and enhance the aerospace supply chain, promote innovation, and drive technology transfer, with the ultimate goal of boosting the overall competitiveness of the regional production system.

The three-year agreement is designed to foster growth for businesses in both upstream operations—satellite and launcher manufacturing and launching—and downstream activities—the exploitation of satellite data. It also seeks to develop the space economy across various practical applications, ranging from weather monitoring and agriculture to logistics and transport.

This marks a decisive step toward the official inauguration of the new Aerospace and Security Industrial and Technological District. Positioning itself as a key player in the upcoming European funding framework—which allocates €130 billion to aerospace, defense, and security—Lazio has already invested €115 million in critical and strategic supply chains.

In Lazio, the sector comprises 360 companies, 23,000 employees, an annual turnover of €5 billion, and €2 billion in exports. This agreement will multiply opportunities for the region to play a pivotal role at the European level in a sector that is increasingly crucial to global geopolitical strategy.
