The Lazio Aerospace Technological District (DTA) was established in 2004 through an agreement between the Region and the Ministry of Research. In 2012, the DTA became a partner of the National Aerospace Technology Cluster (CTNA).

85% of the industrial network is made up of SMEs specialized in electronics, ICT, processing of advanced and rare materials, space and satellite applications, airport services, and more. Local facilities produce components for Vega and Ariane launchers, satellites, radars, and equipment for helicopters and aircraft.

ESA-ESRIN European Space Agency

Lazio hosts the ESA-ESRIN headquarters in Frascati, which manages Earth Observation missions. It connects developers and researchers, plans operations, manages scientific communications and resources. ESRIN is the main hub for the acquisition, distribution, and exploitation of satellite data, including those from non-ESA missions.

Italian Space Agency

The Italian Space Agency (ASI) is also based in Lazio and is one of the key players in space and satellite research.

The security sector is closely linked to aerospace, as it integrates space-derived technologies for environmental surveillance and control, communications, identification systems, information management, and biological and nuclear safety.

Across the Lazio region, dozens of research centers collaborate closely with aerospace companies: ESA, INFN, ENEA, ASI, COSMO-SkyMed, National Institute for Astrophysics, Aeroporti di Roma, CNR, INGV, ENAV, ENAC, ISPRA.
