A memorandum of understanding between the Lazio Region, Farmindustria and Unindustria aims to strengthen the region’s pharmaceutical sector by enhancing local clinical research, scientific research and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The three-year agreement is designed to make Lazio increasingly attractive for research and development investments, also by strengthening the training of professionals involved in the sector and promoting the adoption of innovative tools such as Real World Evidence (RWE) and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) to facilitate access to secondary health data.
The protocol seeks to reinforce public-private partnerships and foster collaboration among IRCCSs (Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalization and Healthcare), universities, local health authorities (ASLs) and patient associations, with the goal of making Lazio’s clinical research system more efficient. The initiative is expected to generate benefits for citizens and the regional healthcare network while enhancing the territory’s scientific competitiveness and ensuring patients faster access to innovative therapies.
The best treatments stem from research, and this agreement represents a significant step forward in strengthening Lazio’s complex life sciences ecosystem. The Region’s healthcare ecosystem is already among the most advanced in Europe and will also benefit from the expertise and infrastructure of the Rome Technopole.
The Lazio Region will be responsible for strategic guidance and coordination, including the adoption of tools to measure outcomes and assess the effectiveness of the actions undertaken. A Steering Committee, to be established shortly, will oversee the promotion of clinical trials by defining priorities and procedures. Alongside the Committee, a regional network of Clinical Trials Centers will also be created to increase patient involvement in clinical research.
